Performs operator, switchboard, and PBX functions on computerized healthcare telephone system. Supports communication for the health system. Relays incoming and outgoing telephone calls for care team members, physicians, patients and the general public. Responsible for responding to emergency codes and assisting affected departments with internal communication needs. Responsible for contacting physicians and other medical personnel for emergency and off-hours service requests. Compiles data for occupancy and census records. Maintains daily and monthly physician and provider call lists. Works with all departments to promote effective communication and a safe environment. Provides data entry support to the customer service center.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required, Associate degree or some college preferred
Experience: Minimum 1-year prior Switchboard, Customer Service and Data Entry work experience. Office equipment experience including telephone switchboard, computer, fax, and copier required. Typing at a corrected rate of 35 wpm or higher.
Other: Must have a pleasant voice with good communication skills, tact and discretion. Computer literate with work experience using Microsoft Office or equivalent word processing, spread sheet, and electronic mail software. Data entry skills. Ability to learn PBX switchboard equipment and paging equipment. Maintains calm in emergency situations and has the ability to follow protocols. Maintains quality in an environment with frequent interruptions. Must work independently; use good judgment and decision-making skills. Must have strong emotional stability, pleasant personality, excellent verbal communication skills and a positive attitude toward working with the public. Easily adapts to change and fast paced environment. Dependability and flexibility are required.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires complete range of motion, ability to sit for extended periods of time and wear a telephone headset. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination and verbal communication skills. Sitting, standing, stooping, bending and stretching required. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds.
