The Procedure Assistant provides coverage at Aspirus Wausau Hospital and the Imaging Center (provides service for Radiology Associates of Wausau pain management practice at the Imaging Center).

The Radiology Procedure Assistant is a member of the patient care team in Imaging Services, under the supervision of the Diagnostic Radiology Team Leader, Registered Nurses, the Imaging Services Management group and Radiologists. The Radiology Procedure Assistant provides technical assistance to Technologists and Radiologists performing diagnostic and interventional radiographic procedures for both inpatients and outpatients. The Radiology Procedure Assistant assists in maintaining supplies and equipment, maintaining a clean and safe environment . The Procedure Assistant plays an important role in maintaining an efficient workflow by providing support to the Radiologists and Imaging Technologists. They work with Technologists when a second person is needed so another Technologist does not need to assist and can be performing another exam. This includes x-ray studies performed in the Emergency Department and with the portable unit at patient’s bedside, as well as in the Radiology Department. They work one-on-one with the Radiologists as an assistant at the Imaging Center.

Knowledge of patient care standards and practices normally acquired through completion of a high school diploma. Previous work experience in an acute care setting or operating room environment beneficial. Basic medical terminology or completed within 1 year of hire. Possesses and maintains certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or must be completed within one year of hire. Surgical tech experience beneficial. Current CPR certification required. Completes MRI safety training annually. Possesses a complete and thorough knowledge of invasive equipment such as but not limited to wires, catheters, connectors, drainage bags, stents, balloons, etc. Possesses a working knowledge of both hospital and department specific computer systems.
