Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Informatics, the Software Engineer in the MGH Medical Imaging Trials Center (MITC) will be primarily responsible for developing next-generation applications for clinical trials and physician training. The software engineer will be leading efforts in application, database, and user interface design. The Software Engineer will work on a team with medical experts and management on several projects, one of which will be to expand upon a Learning Management System (LMS), involving database design, implementation of a web application, integration with medical image viewing applications, and front end website design. Additional projects include projects on image analysis and clinical data tracking applications.

Software development for imaging trials and custom app development
Work closely with our research and informatics teams to define feature specifications
Database design and implementation
Build report interfaces and data-feeds


Perl/CGI, MySQL, Apache, Linux/Unix and web-services/SOAP experience strongly desired
Web front-end development and integration using JavaScript/Ajax, CSS, XHTML
Dreamweaver experience is a plus.
Familiarity and interest in other web-application technologies such as PHP, Ruby on Rails, JSP, ASP.NET, and Python/Django would be valuable
Knowledge of relational databases in addition to MySQL, e.g. PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, are a plus
Java, C++, .NET/C#/SQL Server skills would a plus


BS in related field to engineering or computer science required
At least 1 year prior experience in industry or academic environment in database design, implementation and web technologies.
