Position Title: Quality Assurance Scientist

Purpose of Role

This position works in the area of Quality and Food Safety. The Quality Assurance Scientist ensures that ingredients and manufactured products meet company quality specifications. In addition, this role provides support in developing, implementing, maintaining and proactively improving quality management programs, methods and systems to assure product, processes, and environments conform to the established Mars quality and regulatory standards.

There

will be a close working relationship with R&D associates and external manufacturing partners. The position promotes product safety and general product quality awareness with opportunity to grow further in the Quality & Food Safety function.

Principal Accountabilities

§

Performs data review for relevant projects.

§

Supports the evaluation and disposition of raw materials, intermediates/work-in-progress materials (WIP), finished products, and labeling through timely evaluation of batch records (if applicable), laboratory results and other cGMP documents.

§

Monitors incoming and outgoing document changes to assure requirements are met and documents are processed in a timely manner.

§

Writes, revises, and reviews standard operation procedures (SOPs) and related quality documents.

§

Assists associates in the creation of documentation standards such as protocols, reports, procedures, material specifications, customer documentation, and product labeling.

§

Fosters interactions between functional groups for overall quality improvement, maintains good working relationships with other departments, and assists associates in the understanding and implementation of quality initiatives, standards and applicable regulations.

§

Informs line manager on the quality and compliance status of quality activities.

§

Assists with internal audits, when required.

§

Represents QA on cross-functional teams.

§

Ensures all quality related work is performed and documented in accordance with cGMP requirements and existing company policies and procedures.

§

Assists in investigation of and the assessment of impact of minor and major deviations that may occur during manufacture and/or testing of products.

§

Quality systems and software back when accountable associate is not on site.

§

Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Key Functional Skills/Knowledge

§

Strong questioning and probing skills to discover issues and to verify the accuracy of information, results, and data.

§

Excellent ability to use and learn new software systems including: word processing, spread sheets, EtQ, and graphics.

§

Ability to work with others in R&D, Commercial, Marketing and/or Distribution to improve product, processes and systems.

§

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively.

§

Ability to work independently as well as within a team.

§

Flexibility to adapt to regularly changing priorities and quality issues.

§

Ability to handle sensitive information.

Key Experiences

§

4-5 years in regulated industry required with direct experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control, along with at least 2 years practical experience in laboratory with established quality systems such as ISO.

§

Experience with 21 CFR Part 111 Dietary Supplement GMPs.

§

Proven application of data review including laboratory methodologies, notebooks, food science, statistics and/or quality tools.

Desired Education

§

Degree in the Sciences such as Chemistry, Engineering, Statistics, Food Science discipline, or related field (Biological, Food Technology, Biotechnology, Mathematics)

Travel

§

Up to 10%.
