Medical Transcriptionist- Medical Transcription (Sister's of Charity Hospital, St. Joseph Campus) : The Medical Transcriptionist performs as medical language specialist who interprets, transcribes and edits dictation by medical and house staff physicians and other health care professionals regarding patient assessment, work up, therapeutic procedures, clinical course, diagnosis, prognosis, etc., in order to document patient care and facilitate delivery of healthcare services.

REPORTS TO: Transcription Supervisor

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : None

SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM):

Education Requirements

Associates degree in Medical Secretarial/Medical Office Assistant or certificate from an approved Medical Transcription program required
Experience Requirements
·
One year as a Medical Transcriptionist required
Knowledge, Skills, Experience:
·
The medical transcriptionist must have extensive skills in most work types, specialties, accents and dialects.
· Must possess acute auditory and acoustical sensitivity with keen hand-eye coordination.
· An editor must be proficient in referencing and researching.
· Ability to work in most work types and specialties and fluent with majority of the dictators.
· Demonstrates quality transcription work, consistently maintaining accuracy.
· Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, disease processes, signs and symptoms, medications and laboratory values.
· Ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision.
