Under the general direction of the CMO/VP Medical Affairs and the direct supervision of the Director, Office of Catholic Identity and within established departmental policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions:
Carries out the goals of the Pastoral Care Department and, as appropriate, the goals of the Office of Catholic Identity. Regularly visits with all patients, especially new admissions, while daily giving priority to referrals and those in greatest need. Provides sacramental ministry, religious counseling and crisis intervention as appropriate. Provides information about the availability of area clergy and makes contacts when requested. Ensures pastoral availability to families and staff in times of crisis. Establishes positive working relationships with all members of the health team as well as volunteers. Makes ethics consult referrals for patients, family and staff pursuant to the CMC Clinical Ethics Services policy. Participates in patient care conferences and discharge planning rounds. Participates in departmental quality management activities. Maintains statistical reports of activities and submits to the Director, Office of Catholic Identity. Documents patient’s visitations and logs interactions for interdepartmental communication. Ensures confidentiality of employee, physician, patient, legal, budgetary and other Catholic Medical Center matters.
Education: • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Theology or in a related field. • Two or more credits of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) preferred.
Experience: • Three years in hospital ministry preferred.
Licensure/Certification: • Certification by NACC, ACPE, or COC preferred.
