Operator performs various setup and manufacturing/ assembly operations to support the assembly of complete bearing units. These duties include washing components, welding retainers and marking seals following standard work procedures. Checks specification sheets, bills of materials, job assignment cards or work orders for the size, type and quantity of components to wash, assemble or make. Gets necessary equipment/ material from designated storage areas within the department and work cell. Uses electric walk or hand truck/ four wheel cart to transport components/ finished parts to and from the work area.
Retainer Welder: Changes and aligns fixtures, castles and adjusts fixture stroke for each size as required. Changes welding controls, voltage, pressure and timing per specifications for each size to be welded. Operator test welds retainers and performs strain test using arbor press and digital strain gage to insure proper weld quality per specifications. Operator places retainer on lower castle, spaces balls in the bearing, places it on lower retainer, places upper retainer and welds unit. Parts are then demagnetized and spin washed to insure proper welding and cleanliness. Operator visually checks parts for welding splatter, etc.
Spin Washer: Operator places bearing unit against spinning cone on spindle and directs oil flow into the bearing to wash out debris by adjusting oil hose. Operator places cleaned units into baskets for transport to assembly line.
Vibratory Etching: Operator uses computer terminal to select preloaded slinger size. Operator then types in correct I.D. designation for the slinger and selects run mode. The slinger fixture is adjusted to predetermined marks for the size being etched. Operator makes test cycle and adjusts pen height as needed to obtain legible marking. Hand loads and visually inspects finished components 100%. Operator changes etching pen as required. Places finished product into bag and identifies with part number and delivers to assembly.
MK Seal Press: Change dies as required for size to be stamped. Some dies require punch interchanges which require disassembly, punch interchange and reassembly of the die. Ram stroke is adjusted to insure proper punching of unit. Parts are hand loaded.
Hot Stamp Press: Lift top cover and replace rotary dial. Uses both hand and automatic feeding. Operator changes out stamp as required for size being marked. The heat cycle and pressure are both adjusted as needed to insure proper stamping. Operator performs rub test to insure marking is adequate. Stamp requires preheating for proper operation. Care is to be used when changing stamp as burns may occur. Change marking tape as needed and adjust tape rewind mechanism.
Laser Machine: Sets up and operates laser machine to mark identification on parts such as seals, flingers, and any other parts adaptable to machine. Adjusts fixtures on turntable to accommodate specific size of part. Selects part number and input required identification information into machine by use of computer. Loads part onto fixture and starts machine. Continues to load and remove parts from fixtures as turntable rotates. May also set up laser machine to mark identification on metal nameplates, and may be required to operate metal nameplate stamping machine to make certain nameplates not yet adaptable to laser machine. Also responsible for printing labels by use of label printer.
Changes, makes up and monitors oil levels as required. May change paper filters as required. Check for proper assembly of a quality product. Notifies supervisor immediately if sufficient parts are not available, or if parts are damaged or are not assembling properly.
Follow TPM instructions on equipment where applicable and notifies supervisor of all malfunctions. Maintains a clean and orderly work area at all times in accordance with 5-S procedures.
Requires the ability to read limited detailed written instructions, part specifications, or routine procedures from card, tag, part drawings and instruction manuals; keep routine records of material movements, etc.; or, limited use of arithmetic in connection with decimals or fractions in routine calculations such as making scale or micrometer measurements to setup machine tools or equipment or operations, or check parts, determine or use unit weights, quantities, etc.
Requires sufficient job experience to perform work of a routine semi-skilled type in performing various support operations for the assembly cells.
