The scientific systems information architect is expected to work closely with OIM staff and scientists to plan the future systems infrastructure, to assess and expand current system infrastructure with design and planning for continuity of operations as well as leading the efforts for disaster recovery planning operations. The candidate will be expected to work closely with all scientists and infrastructure staff to ensure scientific information systems are integrated ensuring scientific computing data sources at the instrument level are completely integrated to provide seamless access to data and data analytical capabilities.

Exposure to Genomics/ Bioinformatics with an understanding of the computing requirements to support data generation and analysis of bioinformatics workloads
A working knowledge of bioinformatics databases and familiarity with data schema used for bioinformatics is essential
Experience with capacity planning, requirements gathering, architecting high performance computing cluster systems with high speed interconnects and high bandwidth (parallel) file storage systems and archival systems
Experience with the planning, design and implementation of continuity of operations and disaster recovery operations in a high performance scientific computing environment
Experience with storage and networking hardware, storage and networking protocols
Experience with parallel file systems in an HPC setting such as GPFS, Lustre, PVFS2, pNFS
Skills with programming languages such as Perl and shell scripting are essential
Experience supporting LDAP and Kerberos, Common Access Card (CAC) or Personal Identity Verification card for security authentication services and single sign-on is a plus
Experience with databases such as Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, DB2 is desired

Required Experience:
Ph.D. degree (typically in a scientific discipline), 10+ years of related experience
Exposure to Genomics/ Bioinformatics with an understanding of the computing requirements to support data generation and analysis of bioinformatics workloads
Demonstrated experience in architecting HPC platforms for scientific computing with high performance storage and parallel file system support
Experience with continuity of operations and disaster recovery operations planning and implementation in a HPC environment with laboratory instrumentation support
Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SuSE Linux, Ubuntu and Debian distribution, Windows Server 2003 and Mac OS X
Experience in setup and operation of HPC job scheduling software such as PBS, OpenPBS, Condor, Sun/Oracle Grid Engine is highly desired
Experience with virtualization software
