We're seeking a Reliability Engineer at our headquarters in Olathe, KS. Our Reliability Engineers are focused on ensuring that Garmin’s remain at the top of the quality scale. They develop, perform, and coordinate reliability analyses, test plans and procedures to improve quality and reliability of Garmin products, processes, and systems.

Core essential functions for this role include performing activities to maximize reliability of both new and existing products including designing and conducting experiments to measure product life and reliability, partnering with Design and Process Engineering to implement strategies aimed at improving detection of product failures and determining root cause, assisting in development and application of reliability testing strategies including accelerated life testing such as HALT and HASS, recommending design or process improvements to enhance reliability, and/or measuring and maintaining field reliability data and communicating results.

Other responsibilities for this role include:
Analysis of reliability data to identify adverse performance trends and improvement opportunities; areas may include external/internal measurements, technical analysis of product applications, corrective actions, and implementation of improvement processes and design improvements

Contribute to cross-functional teams focusing on improving the reliability of products and processes. Reliability improvement initiatives may include any of the following : Design for Manufacturability, Design for Serviceability, FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and Design of Experiments

Statistical analysis of test and field data with regard to durability and reliability. This includes Weibull analysis, regression analysis, Reliability Growth Testing models, ANOVA and related techniques

Providing support to suppliers in evaluating the reliability of their components; providing support to suppliers in addressing reliability related problems associated with their product

Work with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Customer Repair, and Process Engineering to identify and implement process and design improvements in order to continuously improve product and process reliability


Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or, if no degree, a minimum of 4 years experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description. A minimum of 5 years demonstrated reliability and test experience equivalent to the essential functions of this job description plus demonstrated experience performing Accelerated Life Testing methods and equipment are also required.

Demonstrates proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Ability to operate effectively within a team environment and work across functional and organizational boundaries

Candidates with experience in reliability and testing within the aircraft avionics industry, work experience in an FAA approved quality system, and/or proven knowledge of Design of Experiments, FMEA, Weibull analysis, regression analysis, and Reliability Growth Testing are highly preferred. Experience with qualification and certification of products to National and international Standards, experience with database management systems such as Microsoft Access and SQL, statistics packages such as Minitab, and/or experience programming with languages such as Visual Basic are also desired.
