The Institution:
The Los Rios Community College District is a two-year public college district serving the greater Sacramento region. Our district includes American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake and Sacramento City colleges; major centers in Placerville, Davis, West Sacramento, downtown Sacramento, Natomas and Rancho Cordova; and special services for business and industry.

Our colleges offer transfer education - students complete freshman and sophomore years and transfer to a four-year college or university - and AA/AS degrees and certificates in over 70 career fields. The District's 2400 square mile service area includes Sacramento and El Dorado counties and parts of Yolo, Placer, and Solano counties. Approximately 90,000 students are enrolled in our colleges.

The District office houses a number of district-wide services. These include the Chancellor's office, Board Room, Legal Services, Business Services, Human Resources, Institutional Research, Resource Development and Information Technology. Other district-wide services which can be found at various locations around the community are the District Police Department, Facilities Management Department and the Business and Economic Development Center. Each department strives for the highest quality in all programs, services, and activities for our communities and staff.

Position Summary:
The entry and first working level class of the series. Incumbents, under general direction, perform groundskeeping and gardening work including operation of gang mowers, rototillers, tractors, and electric hand grounds equipment; planting, cultivating and watering plants, shrubs and trees; repairing sprinkler systems. Incumbents may assist grounds maintenance technicians with grounds maintenance work. Job Location: Facilities Management, 3753 Bradview Drive, Sacramento, CA 95827.

Responsibilities:
Under leadership, performs general grounds maintenance work, sweeping walks and parking areas, picking up papers and rubbish, raking leaves and weeding; maintains sprinkler systems, installing and repairing sprinkler heads and lines; plants, cultivates and cares for lawns, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees and flowers; prunes trees, resods and otherwise repairs lawns and playing areas; mixes and applies insecticides and herbicides using hand-operated and power-driven sprayers; maintains athletic fields; burns and marks lines for athletic contests; assists in setups for athletic events and/or community services activities; installs sign posts, benches, parking bumpers and security gates; operates and services equipment including power sweeper, lawn mower, gang mower, rototiller, trenching machine, front-end loaders and forklift; may drive trucks, tractors; may oversee student help or temporary personnel assigned to groundskeeping; assists grounds maintenance technicians with grounds maintenance work; performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE: One year of gardening or grounds maintenance experience.

Promotional: One year of experience in Los Rios CCD as a custodian or related type of work plus several horticulture classes. (Promotional applies to regular current Classified employees working with the Los Rios CCD.)

EDUCATION: Completion of courses in use of herbicides and insecticides leading to certificate or qualify for certificate within six months of hire. Courses in groundskeeping and horticulture desirable. Completion of course necessary to obtain forklift operator certificate or qualify for certificate by taking course within 6 months of hire.

Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at a maximum of 40 hours per week. Education Requirement: 12 units are equal to six months of education; 24 units are equal to one year of education.)

  • TRANSCRIPTS:
  • Individuals who have completed colleges or university course work at an institution in a country other than the United States must obtain a complete evaluation of foreign transcripts, degrees and other relevant documents. A foreign transcript evaluation is required any time foreign course work is used to meet minimum qualifications even if the foreign transcript has been accepted by a college or university in the United States.
  • Graduate advising documents and grade reports will not be accepted as unofficial transcripts.
  • It is the responsibility of Los Rios CCD employees to provide transcripts for the application process, if required by position.
Special Requirements:
Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License.

Within six months obtain pesticide certification as a California Commercial Applicator with B and C option. After six month of hire, must maintain a valid pesticide certification as a California Commercial Applicator with B and C option.

Within six months of hire obtain a forklift operator certificate. After six months of hire, must maintain a valid forklift operator certificate.

Any offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a medical evaluation.

Conditions:
Job Offer Requirements: Offers of employment are contingent upon successful clearance from a criminal background check, freedom from tuberculosis, and proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States prior to the first day of work. For permanent and adjunct faculty positions, when education is a requirement for the position, official academic transcripts from the accredited college/university must be submitted within 60 days of hire.
The District may select additional qualified candidates should unexpected vacancies or needs occur during this recruitment/selection process.
Administrative positions may be subject to the District's Conflict of Interest Code, and a financial disclosure statement is required within thirty (30) days following appointment to the position.
Contingent on funding and eligibility, successful candidates selected for an interview may be eligible to apply for partial reimbursement of travel expenses (for Administrative/Executive and Faculty positions).
