Title: Engineering Paint Specialist Position # MR03021 Organization: Volkswagen Chattanooga Operations Reports to: Manager, Paint Shop Location: Chattanooga, TN Competencies Innovation Team work Customer focus Performance driven Change leadership Problem solving Quality Organizing Planning Role Summary The ideal person in this role must have hands on automotive experience with E-Coat and Powder Coat Systems. Must be an expert in understanding paint layers and surface effects on the car. Ability to detect defects and understand Corrosion as related to painted bodies or parts: surface (e.g. waviness, dirt, inclusion, structure) and sealing defects. Must be able to lead teams including Production/Skilled Team Members in an automotive manufacturing environment to meet and exceed company goals and objectives. Responsible for the production output, quality and process costs of assigned areas. Qualifications (Skills & Experiences & Education Years of experience: Minimum four years leading employees Education Required: Skilled worker in auto technology. BS Degree in business or related field Desired: Advanced degreeSkills *Ability to work in a team *Communication skills *Computer savvy - skilled in the use of software *Integration - joining people or processes *Influencing and negotiation skills *Problem solving *Resource management
Required: *Positive employee relations/team building *Automotive technology/metal/electrical/paint *Responsibility for personnel in technical industry *Continuous improvement Special Skills Desired: *Personnel management Work Flexibility (travel requirements, work schedule, etc.) Travel - 5-80% initially, 0-5% after SOP (Start of Production) Work schedule - Will vary based on project progress and initiatives Rotating shift required Role Responsibilities *Lead teams of Team Leaders and Production/Skilled Team Members in an automotive manufacturing environment to meet and exceed company goals and objectives *Supervise /Manage the production process to ensure processes meet safety standards, quality standards, environmental and OSHA regulations *Create a continuous improvement environment to develop best in class production system *Motivate team members and develop teamwork *Coordinate activities with the maintenance team to minimize production delays due to equipment issues *Allocate and manage staff and production resources *Monitor safety, quality, cost and productivity with improvement activities for assigned areas of production *Collaborate with other production departments, quality, production control and engineering to provide best in class product quality *Guiding, evaluating and supporting employees *Optimizing production, production quality and the cost situation by recognizing the potential for rationalization as well as by improving workplace design and safety *Recognizing and rectifying bottleneck situations *Instructing the team in what the company's objectives are *Providing instruction and guidance about required techniques and regulations *Controlling the deployment of personnel in unusual production situations *Recording absence and presence of employees and teams *Cooperation with Health & Safety and audit teams This role description is a guideline and does not create contractual rights between the Company and any of its employees.
