CIRAS, the Extension and Outreach Center for Industrial Research and Service, is seeking a Project Manager (PM) that provides technical expertise to manufacturers and businesses. Services will be provided in partnership with faculty through the engineering student capstone design program and through matching of faculty/laboratory resources with the company needs.
Capstone design is the culmination of undergraduate students' study in their chosen engineering discipline. The position will collaborate with faculty in identifying engineering issues facing companies and help ascertain the necessary skill sets required of the student teams to achieve the company objectives and to provide a high quality hands-on industry experience for the students. Researching the engineering needs of companies, identifying the appropriate faculty, laboratory and other ISU resources needed to meet the company needs, and managing on-campus visits to connect company executives with these resources is also a duty of this position.
Responsibilities include assessing problems and providing solutions to companies to improve their profitability and capacity to foster growth. Many of the problems encountered by Iowa businesses require nontraditional solutions or research into new, innovative, global-oriented processes that may not have been previously considered by the company.
The PM will initiate a college wide industry survey process to identify the economic impact of the student led projects and faculty-company projects. A key component of this position is the development, implementation, and maintenance of a consistent streamlined industry process for the capstone courses and corporate visits including working with engineering department chairs and individual faculty to working with ISU legal on consistent contract templates for these industry interactions. The position functions as a vital link to ISU (e.g. College of Engineering, research facilities) for effective knowledge transfer and integration of complex solutions to businesses. Staff is expected to interact collegially and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics.
Master's degree in a technical and/or business discipline and 3 years related experience.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Mid-level management experience. Experience with manufacturers or in a manufacturing environment. Experience which demonstrates exposure to global business operations. Development and presentation of educational curriculum. Additional years of related experience. Experience working with faculty at a four year institution of higher education. Licensed Professional Engineer.
Commensurate with experience and education.
