APSU-Theatre and Dance Assistant Professor of Dance Position No.: 816205 Position Summary: Applications are being sought by the Area of Theatre and Dance at Austin Peay State University to fill a full-time, tenure-track position in DANCE beginning August, 2011. Theatre and Dance at APSU offers three major Theatre concentrations through the Department of Communications with a very active Dance minor program. The Area of Theatre and Dance is actively working towards building a major concentration in Dance. Theatre and Dance at APSU has two new Dance studios, presents multiple concerts throughout the year, and actively participates in the American College Dance Festival Association and Tennessee Association of Dance.

In addition, the University has funding opportunities to help support research, creative activity and teaching equipment expenses. Typical Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes in Dance and work with students to choreography main stage productions where needed. The ideal candidate will have a record of successful university teaching experience, ability to teach improvisation, ability to teach technique with somatic practice in mind, professional dance experience and technical proficiency/practical experience in a broad spectrum of Dance styles. -Teach undergraduate dance courses -Demonstrate respect for the diverse learning needs of students.

  • Mentor student choreographic endeavors -Choreograph for main stage productions -Advise Theatre and Dance students who are working towards degree completion -Actively participate on University committees and continued recruiting efforts. -Ability to work with a diverse student body Required Qualifications: -Earned terminal degree (MFA or Ph.D.) in Dance or a related field by July 15, 2011. -A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
