About The Port Authority

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state public agency operating some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the New York / New Jersey region including The Port Authority Trans Hudson Corporation (PATH), the primary transit link between Manhattan and New Jersey communities and suburban commuter railroads.

Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a Staff Services Engineer who will be working under the supervision of the Principal Architect. As part of a project team, the Staff Services Engineer, Architect will be responsible for the performance of duties that may include planning (Pre-Stage I), preliminary design (Stage I) and design development (Stage II), building code review and cost estimating, but with a focus on contract documents (Stage III), shop drawing review, post-award design changes (Stage IV), specification writing, and material investigation. This position will first be locatedi n Newark, NJ but will move to downtown New York City towards the end of 2014.

Responsibilities also include:

Functioning as Lead Architect (LE/A), Task Leader, or Specifications Writer for multiple projects at Port Authority Facilities, supervision and production of design tasks related to architectural deliverables, coordination with supervisors and other team members, coordination with other engineering disciplines, and interface with consultants as required. The Staff Services Engineer, Architect will be responsible for contact with manufacturers of architectural building materials and responsible for resources related to architectural specifications, as well as be responsible for efforts related to continuing education programs.

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

Must possess a Bachelors Degree from an architectural program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Boards (NAAB). A professional five-year or masters degree is preferred.

15 years minimum experience in all phases of design, code analysis, estimating, specification writing, and field inspection

Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) or Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA)

Demonstrated knowledge with Microsoft Word and Excel

Desired

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

Possess LEED AP credential

Possess Architectural license in either the states of New York or New Jersey

Self-motivated, with excellent technical writing skills, and the ability to multi-task

Demonstrated problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, as well as the demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and function in a team environment

Demonstrated superior oral communication, written communication and presentation skills
