About the role:
The Senior Linux/Unix System Administrator is responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and owning the Linux/Unix server and storage infrastructure for GM’s development factories. Along with coaching Junior level System Administrators, the Senior Linux/Unix System Administrator duties will include supporting software development managers in deploying new software packages in GM’s Linux/Unix environments. This role is also responsible for documentation and support of processes involving application installation and patching, performance improvement, availability of business server platforms, and troubleshooting technical issues. The Linux/Unix System Administrator is will be proactively monitoring all development infrastructure, as well as maintaining support for technical issues. This role will also assist in designing and implementation of the business solutions for GM’s development factories.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in an Information Technology related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Linux/Unix system administration.
  • In-depth knowledge of operating systems, hardening of servers, hardware and infrastructure architecture.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with virtualized products (i.e., VMware, vCenter, vSphere)
  • Experience maintaining and administering Suse Linux servers in a VMware environment.
  • Experience maintaining and administering Sun Solaris servers in a corporate environment.
  • Novel Certified Linux Administrator or similar certification.
