Parks within the Klamath I&M Network include Redwood National Park, Lassen Volcanic National Park, Oregon Caves National Monument, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, and Lava Beds National Monument. The incumbents of these positions will travel to parks within the Klamath I&M Network to sample vegetation.

Incumbents must be in excellent physical condition, and possess good communication, organizational and orienteering skills. The incumbent will spend considerable time outdoors in all types of weather, and may be required to spend long hours driving vehicles over rough roads to conduct surveys. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to: Research activity or control program work; nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in controlled environment; and/or work comparable to that with a large dairy farm where production records, animal environment, and work conditions were kept in accordance with modern dairy practice. Other specialized experience for this position is work involving one or more aspects of biological research and monitoring such as: performing basic vegetation inventories and surveys; studies of biological, physical, and chemical characteristics of plants and/or other vegetation types.Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience regardless of whether compensation was received or whether the experience was gained as a part-time or full-time occupation. Full-time work is generally considered to be 35 to 40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.EducationGS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to the position to be filled (e.g. botany, plant science, plant taxonomy, plant ecology, plant morphology, plant anatomy, ethnobotany, plant physiology).A combination of education and experience may qualify you for this position. For GS-5 level positions, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements.

Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to l year of specialized experience. Then determine the applicant's education as a percentage of the education that meets the requirements for GS-5. Add the two percentages.
