The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for the daily housekeeping and cleaning of the Museum and supervises and directs the other members of the Museum's housekeeping team. He/she is responsible for the proper and efficient cleaning of all public areas in the museum and all office spaces, meeting spaces and break rooms, ensuring the highest level of cleanliness.

  • Clean offices, bathrooms, windows, floors and stairways, and other public areas of the Museum; trash and snow removal; change light bulbs
  • Assist with set up and removal of facilities for special events; move furniture and objects as required and directed
  • Manage the daily activities of the housekeeping staff; assign duties, supervise staff, and inspect work daily to ensure the Facilities Department's high standards of cleanliness are being met
  • Prepare work schedules for housekeeping staff and review and approve timesheets
  • Respond to and investigate complaints from visitors and staff regarding housekeeping service and take corrective action
  • Conduct orientation training and in-service training to all housekeeping employees to explain policies, work procedures, and to demonstrate use and care of maintenance equipment
  • Maintain housekeeping equipment; arrange for repair or replacement of damaged equipment when necessary
  • Monitor inventory of all housekeeping supplies; purchase and re-order to ensure staff has necessary supplies available at all times
  • Receive and confirm delivery of supplies and services on behalf of the Facilities Department
  • Prepare daily housekeeping reports
  • Give regular performance feedback to housekeeping staff and assess and address under-performance if necessary; prepare and conduct annual performance reviews
  • Continually seek to develop housekeeping policies and procedures to improve operations; make recommendations to improve service and efficiency
  • Perform other duties and assist the Building Manager as directed
  • Uphold the highest standards of safety, cleanliness and conduct
  • At least 3 years previous experience managing a small team of housekeeping employees; previous management in the hospitality or museum industry a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel applications
  • Ability to multitask and respond quickly to changing needs and demands
  • Able to work independently
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of OSHA and safety standards
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and ability to push a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Ability to lift, bend, reach, and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and snow removal equipment
  • Ability to climb ladders
