The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Sociocultural Anthropology to begin August 15, 2011. Applicants must demonstrate teaching effectiveness and a strong capacity to produce scholarly research. A Ph.D. in Anthropology is preferred but advanced ABD status will be considered.
Candidates should have research and teaching interests that interrelate political, economic, and social analyses of the local cultural impacts of globalization. World cultural area specialization is open, but preference is for candidates with research and teaching interests in South Asia, East Asia, the Islamic world, or indigenous cultures of the Americas. Ability and willingness to teach an upper division survey course in theory is required; additional teaching interests in research methods, applied anthropology, legal anthropology, and/or environmental anthropology are desirable. Standard teaching load is five (5) courses per academic year. All anthropology faculty teach at least one introductory course annually in addition to courses in their areas of specialization. Salary is competitive.
OU Sociology/Anthropology is a dynamic and collegial department consisting of nine sociologists, five anthropologists, and three social workers. Our Anthropology faculty cover the subdisciplines of cultural anthropology and archaeology. The undergraduate Anthropology program currently enrolls 60 majors and 27 double majors with Sociology.
