Function of Work:
Learns to install, maintain, and replace highway regulatory, guide, and information signs in a Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) District.
Level of Work:
Close functional supervision from a District Sign Specialist 2.
Location of Work:
Department of Transportation and Development, District Traffic Services Unit.
Differs from District Sign Specialist 2 by lack of assignment of full range of duties.
Differs from other maintenance jobs by the performance of duties in sign installation and maintenance.
Examples of Work:
Learns to perform all sign installation, replacement, and maintenance on all State highways in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. This includes highway signing, construction signing, road closure signing, barricades, and other permanent and temporary signing.
Assists in determining exact placement requirements for speed zones, weight limits, and other regulatory signing by interpreting legal orders establishing these regulations.
Learns to operate and maintain all equipment to perform duties including sign truck and small tools.
Learns to maintain daily work reports, materials used reports, truck inventory, and sign shop inventory.
Learns to determine exact placement requirements for speed zones, weight limits, and other regulatory signing by interpreting legal orders establishing these regulations.
Cleans signs and performs discriminative tree and limb cutting to clear obscured signs.
