About the Department
The Hospitality Service Department encompasses all aspects of the Patient and Guest Relations, Concierge Services, Retail Shops, Barnes Lodges and Volunteer Services. Our objective is to provide impeccable and consistent service to all patients, their families and visitors that enter our hospital. We strive to offer efficient and personalized service in a warm and courteous manner with the aim of delivering an extraordinary experience. Hospitality Service is responsible for making positive connections and lasting impressions with our guests. The Gift Gallery is located on the 3rd floor of the Center for Advanced Medicine. The Gift Gallery is available to patients and visitors to purchase items such as snacks, cards, candy, stamps, specialty gifts, personal items, books, magazines, and newspapers. Specially designed fresh floral arrangements are also available through the Gift Gallery.
The Gift Shop Clerk performs a variety of functions such as cashiering, selling, assisting customers, and light cleaning. This position supports the gift shop manager in the daily operations of the gift shop, which includes coordination of gift shop duties as well as overseeing flower shop operations. This position promotes the safety and well-being of all contacts and supports the key results area of Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
Performs cash functions including ringing sales, maintaining paperwork, ensuring product knowledge and providing receipts
Responds to internal and external customer requests and assists customer's with merchandise selection. Works cooperatively and provides general information
Provides excellent customer service by assisting customers, resolving problems and meeting customer needs in a manner that is timely and reflects positively on the shop
Oversees shop operations and delegates duties as necessary 50%
Handles hazardous and infectious waste properly. Practices infection control and adheres to Universal Standard Precautions
Uses equipment and materials properly, reports malfunctions/expirations promptly.
Performs quality controls for all equipment per policy. Attends in services on new equipment
Follows safety regulations and attends required safety training annually. Supports and maintains awareness of hospital and department Safety and Disaster Plans/Drills
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Strong Customer Service experience - 2 years or more
Retail Clerk experience - 2 years or more
Cashier experience - 2 years or more
