MAJOR JOB DUTIES:
Serves as a work leader, working directly with journeymen and non-journeymen performing all the required tasks of a journeyman sheet metal mechanic to manufacture, repair, and modify sheet metal components and accessories.

Provides guidance to other workers on instructions on aircraft maintenance procedures, policies, written instructions, technical data and engineering drawings.

Submits reports and answers supervisor's questions concerning work operations and production problems.

Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders in manufacturing aircraft sheet metal structures which have combined straight and curved edges, and irregular planes and curves.

Assists supervisor in maintaining Production Acceptance Certification (PAC) Program and provides on the job training to sheet metal mechanic workers as directed.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade or equivalent. Specialized experience must include

working and directing journeyman and non-journeyman, performing all tasks assigned to plan, lay out, fabricate, modify, repair, assemble, manufacture and install complex aircraft sheet metal parts, components and accessories. Provide guidance and overall training to co- workers on instructions received from supervisor and perform inspection in accordance with accepted methods and procedures.

1. Ability to provide leadership in accomplishing trade and craft work side by side with other trade and craft personnel, by meeting production goals and objectives and be providing informal on the job supervision, training and support.

2. Knowledge of aircraft sheet metal repairs to plan, lay out, and construct repair patches, flaps, and other items that have predominately straight edges and regular curves.

3. knowledge of arithmetic to calculate and scribe patterns and shop principles of parallel and radial line development.

4. Knowledge of safety and environmental standards, regulations, and requirements.

5. Skill in using basic hand powered tools such as hammers, chisels, hand snips, band and circle saws, squaring shears, seamers, bar folders, brakes and stakes to cut and form items.

6. Skill is using measuring instruments such as pocket rules, hook rules, flexible and semi-flexible steel rules, compasses and other hand measuring devices.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

:

Physical Demands: Physical exertion is moderate and includes prolonged standing; climbing up and down ladders and scaffolding; working in cramped and awkward positions while installing items; and reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and powered tools. Weight lifted seldom exceeds 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: The employee must work both inside and outside and is subject to a moderate amount of noise and vibration from shop machines and a variety of weather conditions; subject to cuts, bruises, falls, and burns.

Other Significant Facts: The

work may require the employee to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.; may be required to work overtime, sometimes on short notice in emergency situations, and maybe to work rotating shifts. The employee may be required to travel temporary duty (TDY) which could be for an extended period (over 30 days). This is a drug testing designated position and the incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
