oscilloscopes, compression gauges, emission analyzers, engine and chassis
dynamometers, charging system meters, combustion analyzer, air conditioning,

Installs, replaces or repairs items involving moderate complexity within the
following systems: ignitions, charging, exhaust, brakes, air conditioning,
front suspension, emission control, fuel, starting, and drive train assembly
(u-joints, pinion seals, etc). Adjusts settings, according to manufacturer's
specifications for ignition point and timing, voltage regulator, points,
gapping spark plugs, engine idle and carburetor air/fuel mixtures, etc.

May assist in performing major repairs to engines, transmissions,
differentials, and suspensions. May give safety instruction classes to patrons.
Insures compliance with fire, safety, sanitation and security regulations.
Maintains tools and work area in a clean and orderly manner. May operate
patron/NAF activity motor vehicles for the purpose of road testing or moving
the vehicle in or out of the work area.

Knowledge of the operation and installation of all components, assemblies, and
systems of vehicles (such as engines, transmissions, front and rear-end
assemblies, power steering and braking mechanisms, electrical and hydraulic
systems) sufficient to isolate malfunctions to the defective component(s) and
to effect those repairs that can be performed without complete tear down and
rebuild of the component. Ability to remove and reinstall major and minor
components and to perform required alignment and adjustment. Skill in the use
of a variety of test equipment such as compression gauges, thickness,
multimeter, and pressure gauges and skill in the use of such tools. Must
understand technical manuals and be able to reference parts and materials.

The supervisor assigns work orally or through work orders. Incumbent decides on
tools, methods/techniques to use and carries out the assignment with little
check during progress. Troubleshoots malfunctions and isolates problems to
defective parts or major assemblies and independently replaces those parts that
can be replaced without complete tear down of major assemblies. Refers problems
that require tear down and rebuild of major components or assemblies to
supervisor for final determination.

Thorough knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of
complex major automobile systems and assemblies to troubleshoot and repair
systems such as: gasoline and diesel engines; automatic and manual
transmissions and gear reduction systems; transaxles; drive line and rear axle
assemblies including electrical, air, vacuum, or mechanically controlled
differentials; electrical and electronic systems and accessories; carbureted
and electronic fuel injection systems; exhaust and emission control systems;
conventional and power steering mechanisms and hydraulic power-assist systems;
and other systems of similar complexity. Ability to troubleshoot and replace
standard electronic components of systems. Ability to interpret and apply
manufacturers' repair manuals and technical specifications, schematics and
engineering drawings, diagnostic codes, computer printouts, and safety manuals.
Skill in the use of hand/power tools, and electronic test equipment. Possess
the ability to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds and frequently stand,
bend, reach, stretch, stoop and work in uncomfortable positions for prolonged
periods of time. Possess and maintain a valid state side driver's license. ***A copy of the valid state side driver's license is REQUIRED
