Purpose of Position

To perform skilled maintenance and operation of instrumentation, water treatment, and electronic and pneumatic systems in an electrical generation and campus facility environment.

Essential Functions

Responsible for providing assistance to journey-level craftsmen in the calibration, installation, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation and control systems. Performs journey-level work in the designing, installation, maintenance and operation of all pneumatic and digital instrumentation and control systems. Coordinates commissioning of control systems on new or renovation projects. Upgrades controls or modifies existing controls. Confers with users in order to gain an understanding of their needs and provides technical advice. Acts as a lead troubleshooter for all crafts involved with the power plant, chilling stations, or building metering equipment. Researches new technical data for new products. Monitors, modifies, repairs and installs all components for both pneumatic, PLC, SCADA, and DCC systems. Assists maintenance engineers with technical issues. Uses hand tools and electrical test equipment to troubleshoot control systems and associated mechanical and electrical systems. Performs work from written or oral instructions, specifications, blueprints, or wiring diagrams. Uses troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques to identify equipment problems. Performs routine and preventative maintenance on control systems. Lifts up to 50 pounds. Drive UT vehicle. Maintain acceptable driving record as required by UT System Policy UST157.

Licences:
Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving
Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License
within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Attend staff meetings, safety training or meetings, and plant operation and maintenance training courses. Completion of training certification expected within 18 months. Performs other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Five years of experience of experience in the operation and maintenance of instrumentation and controls equipment in support of a University Utilities Plant as described in the essential functions. Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Over 10 years experience in the operation and maintenance of instrumentation and controls equipment in support of a University Utilities Plant as described in the essential functions. Associate degree in a technical field. Graduation from an accredited college level program in Industrial Instrumentation or related studies. Certification as an Instrument Technician, Control System Technician, or related field. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills.
