Job Description

Individual should have the ability to coordinate a comprehensive program of recreational activities for children and adults as well as get them engaged and involved. Convey a sense of fun and enthusiasm to participants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
AVERAGE %
OF TIME

90% Responsible for leading all adult and children’s activity programs.

2% Helping guests with the implementation of special activity events.

2% Promoting guest activities and events.

1% Interfacing with resorts departments concerning programs which require their assistance.

5% Planning and implementing activities within the resort which include children’s
programs, adult activities, special events, conference recreation and holiday programs.

Other:
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.

Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Starwood rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotel’s facilities. Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  • Maintaining an ongoing inventory of all games, equipment and supplies.
  • Assuming accountability and responsibility for any and all other functions delegated to the Activities Coordinator that will better serve our guests.
  • Perform any or all duties as assigned by management.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the hotel:

  • Adhere to hotel safety standards.
  • Perform other duties and handle projects as assigned by Manager.
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must by enthusiastic with children and adults (esp. in regards to daily activities, daily camp activities, holiday programs, etc…).
  • Must be able to work well with both children and adults.
  • Must like children.
  • Must have self motivation to entertain children in a safe, reasonable manner.
  • Must have the ability to be flexible (with regards to daily activities, scheduling, working every major holiday, etc…).
  • Creative capabilities help.
  • Must have the ability to understand the nature of having a child care facility/resort camp/resort activities in a service manner applicable to the Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas and to Starwood Vacation Ownership directives.
  • A Kid’s Club Coordinator’s job criteria may not end at working with daily camp/children’s activities, it can also span into working with daily resort activities and/or special activities (holiday, etc…) with both adults and children.
  • Ability to care for the Fitness Center, Guest Lounge and Game Room.
Physical Demands

  • Most work tasks are performed outdoors.
  • Position requires walking and giving direction; must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length. Length of time of theses tasks may vary from day to day and task to task.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach different outlets and other departments of the hotel on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning and stocking tasks.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. On a regular and continuing basis.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
  • Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, 10-key adding machine, electric typewriter, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, FAX machines, photocopiers, dolly and other office equipment as needed.
  • Must be able to interact with the children in the camp program along with physical demands such as swimming, tennis, running, playing, sandcastle making, etc…
  • Must be able to complete the Red Cross Lifeguard Certification requirements.
  • Must be able to pass both TB (tuberculosis) and Physical Exam given by a Doctor. Forms will be sent to the State of Hawaii records.
Requirements

Education
High school or equivalent education required.

Experience
Previous hotel experience preferred. At least 9 months of working with age appropriate children from a registered provider - the minimum required by Hawaii State Law. Must also be over 18 years of age.

Licenses or Certificates
Must be able to complete the Red Cross Lifeguard Certification requirements.

Must obtain and maintain CPR certification for both adults and children along with CPR for the Professional Rescuer (Oxygen certification, AED certification, First Responder certification.

Maintain Blood Borne Pathogen certification.

Must be able to keep Licenses and Certificates mandated by the State of Hawaii.

Due to Hawaii State Law all Kid’s Club Coordinators will have their fingerprints on file with the State of Hawaii and be able to pass a back ground check.

Grooming
All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per Starwood standards.
