Summary
Consistent with the Christian mission and Vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Association Controller the Staff Accountant will help ensure sound fiscal management through responsibilities covering a broad range of disciplines, including treasury, fixed asset management, grant compliance & accounting, collections management revenue recognition, unclaimed property administration, and records management.

Required Skills

Education / Experience Required:
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or Associates degree with related experience

•Proficiency in Microsoft Excel preferred

Certifications Required:
•Pre-hire: complete YMCA of Middle TN application for employment, new hire packet and Praesidium Child Abuse Detection / Prevention training

•Before first shift: CEO parts 1 and 2

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
This position requires an individual with the following qualities:

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high attention to detail.

• Ability to analyze data and draw conclusions, solve problems and make good decisions.

• Superior work ethic, willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends during certain months.

• Good communication skills - both oral and written.

• Ability to work with a positive attitude as part of a hard-working, dedicated team.

Responsibilities
• Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

• Grant compliance and accounting - responsible for ensuring that the Association meets all reporting requirements for federal, state, and private grants, which includes determining the appropriate requirements, managing reporting deadlines, providing accounting support for grant-recipient departments, and making the appropriate filings with the grant provider.

• Revenue recognition - timely posting of all revenue from cash reports, manual journal entries, and drafts from the Association reporting systems (membership, childcare).

• Records management - Ensure complete accounting records are properly archived in preparation for annual audit

• Special Projects as directed by Accounting Manager, Controller, and CFO.

Possible Future Responsibilities:
• Treasury - perform all cash account reconciliations, process stop payments & voided checks, manage ACH payments from various vendors.

• Fixed Asset Management - Reconcile accounts, prepare journal entries and post all asset additions/retirements, including depreciation, perform field audits of fixed assets

• Collections management - Process all returned checks and remit to collection agency, record collected funds received from Collection agency. Handle communications from center staff and members.

• Unclaimed Property administration (payable and receivable).

• Records retention - coordinate all offsite storage and secure shredding needs for association with outsource records management provider.

• Posting and reconciliation of philanthropy revenue, including capital contributions.
