PUERTO RICO NATIONAL GUARD
AIR TECHNICIAN VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

AREA OF CONSIDERATION:
Area 1 = Permanent technicians Officers currently employed in the Puerto Rico Air National Guard.

Area 2 = Officers of the Puerto Rico Air National Guard and personnel that meet all requirements to become an Officer in the Puerto Rico Air National Guard. (This position requires Air National Guard membership).

First round consideration will be given to Area 1 Candidates. (Area 2 Candidates will be screened only in the event that there are no qualified or recommended Area 1 Candidates).

To prevent a grade inversion, military rank allowed for this position will be determined at the final evaluation of the vacancy announcement considering the military rank of the supervisor.

Relocation costs will not be authorized for Permanent Change of Station. Recruitment, Relocation or Retention allowance will not be paid.

Acceptance of any military technician position may cause the termination of entitlements and eligibility for all military bonuses and student loan repayments. For further information you must contact the appropriate military Education Office.
KEY REQUIREMENTS

United States citizenship is required.
Must be elegible for membership in the Puerto Rico Air National Guard. DUTIES:

The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and guidance to ensure the Communications/Information Division meets all wartime readiness requirements. Directs and supervises staff functions, through subordinate supervisors, affecting a diverse and very complex Theater Air Control System (TACS). The division provides operations and maintenance support for assigned computer, communications, data, and sensor systems; information assurance, quality assurance, materiel control, and maintenance control functions; and vehicle and powered support equipment maintenance. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

National Guard military (part-time) service is considered as full-time experience when evaluated against the qualification requirements. The applicant is credited with actual number of months the member has been in the National Guard provided such service is related to the position to be filled .

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with a knowledge of equipment maintenance work, or skill in reading engineering drawings and specifications, using test instruments, making computations, and keeping records.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Applicant must possess more than THIRTY SIX (36) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as assessing and ensuring compliance; working experience with a variety of programs and operations including; multiple air control weapons systems, sensor systems, transmission systems, Local Area Networking (LAN) and Wide Area Networking (WAN) equipment, messaging equipment, telephone switching systems, multiplexing equipment, powered support systems, heating and air conditioning equipment, unit transportation, etc.; preparing schedules for completion of work; identifying developmental and training needs; overseeing and reviewing budget estimates and revisions for the procurement, maintenance, or repair and operation of TACS equipment; monitoring and controlling the expenditure of material and manpower resources; monitoring adequacy of maintenance and repair actions/procedures and components.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
S uccessful completion of undergraduate study in an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester hours for 12 months of specialized experience. The education must have been in fields directly related to the type of work of the position (i.e. Engineering or Industrial Technology, construction, etc.). Copy of student transcripts must be included in order to receive credit for education. Unofficial transcripts from internet or with alterations will not be considered. To receive credit for education the information must be included in the education section of the Resume.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Failure to meet or comply with the following requirements will be basis for non-employment or removal from employment, as appropriate.

  • Males born after 31 Dec 59 must provide evidence of registration with the Selective Service System.
  • Evidence of identity must be provided to comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (PL 99-603).
  • Acceptance of the position constitutes concurrence to wear the appropriate military uniform.
  • Possess or be able to acquire a SECRET security clearance.
  • Continued employment in this position is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the mandatory training specifically identified for the position.
  • Individual selected must enroll in the Department of Defense Direct Deposit / Electronic Fund Transfer Pay Program.
  • Loss of military membership will result in immediate loss of your full-time military technician position.
  • Excepted Civil Service Technicians are required to maintain a MOS/AFSC and military grade that is determined by the NGB to be compatible with the assigned technician position.
COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT:
In order to achieve compatibility prior to effective date of personnel action, individual selected must be eligible for military assignment to a paragraph and line number in one of the following: AFSC 17DXX.

Note: In order to be qualifies for above mentioned AFSC(s) you must comply with mandatory entry requirements contained in Air Force Manual AFMAN 36-2108, Enlisted Classification or AFMAN 36-2105, Officer Classification, as applicable.
Individual selected for this position that is not qualified in one of the mentioned CMF/MOS, MUST submit to HRO, before date of appointment, the correct military paperwork/application to attend the technical training school required to be MOS Qualified. If selectee fails to process the school application and does not successfully graduate from the school, he/she will be terminated from the technician program for failure to meet the compatibility standards and receive a 30 days notice of separation. HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
