Job Description:

Tetra Tech has an immediate opening for an experienced
Field Technician in Anchorage, AK. This is a part-time
position that is project-based. The incumbent will serve
as support crew for field data collection activities
pertaining to hydrographic data collection, river
surveys and river/lake/reservoir water quality sampling.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Taking field notes and measurements;
  • Setting-up and operation of a survey grade GPS unit,
maintaining daily paperwork (data entry, chain of
custody forms, field notes, and documentation of
sampling activities, etc.);
  • Conducting lake/reservoir transect surveys, water
quality characterization and sample collection, and GPS
operation for locating monitoring sites;
  • Office duties may include data processing and entry,
preparing field notes for each sampling event, and
compilation of data (field and laboratory results) in an
organized report.
Travel may be required to and from remote
river/lake/reservoir sites; individual must have a clean
driving record as the position requires regularly
driving a truck and trailer to and from the launch site;
and involves some travel with other crew members.
Overtime may be required.

  • Previous experience as field technician in a related
  • Must have valid driver’s license and good driving
record, with the ability to operate 2wd and 4wd
vehicles, tow boat and equipment trailers, and operate
and troubleshoot a small survey boat;
  • Previous field experience including: GPS surveying or
field data collection experience and use of hydrographic
data collection such as current meter, suspended
sediment samplers, bed material samplers and bed load
  • Must be able to follow instructions and perform tasks
associated with the job description with little to no
day-to-day supervision.

physical requirements:
  • The position is primarily outdoors and the individual
will be exposed to inclement weather conditions of
Anchorage, AK;
  • The individual should be fairly agile to walk on some
steep slopes and other uneven terrain;
  • Must be able to move up to 10 pounds on a regular
basis, move/lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift
or move up to 100 pounds with assistance;
  • Must be able to swim in order to safely perform the
duties for hydrographic survey and water quality
  • Travel may be required with field work consisting of
working near rivers, streams, and primarily in lakes and
