GENERAL SUMMARY

:

Utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients participating in the specialized routine of Joint Camp within the inpatient orthopedic unit.

Coordinates the pre-operative education of all patients undergoing total hip and knee replacements. Collaborates with the director and interdisciplinary team to ensure efficient and effective use of resources.

Serves as a clinical resource, preceptor and role model.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

:

Coordinates the pre-operative education class for joint replacement patients and their families/coaches.

·

Assesses patients, collects and analyzes data in development of nursing diagnosis, beginning with first contact in the pre-operative class setting. (Proactively communicates appropriate information for plan of care to the inpatient staff.)

·

Provides a safe environment for patients and staff by controlling the physical and psychological aspects of the environment.

·

Advocates for quality, compassionate care for patients and families.

·

Facilitates communication between the patient, family, physicians and interdisciplinary team.

·

Communicates professionally at all times with staff, physicians, other departments and physician offices.

·

Participates as member of the Joint Camp Steering Committee.

·

Facilitates/presents community seminars related to joint replacement.

·

Provides input for performance evaluations for team members.

·

May interview potential team members.

·

Coordinates Joint Camp Reunion

·

Facilitates process for participant registration.

·

Assists with data collection to track outcomes of joint replacements.

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

:

·

Possession of a current registered nurse license issued by State of Iowa.

·

Bachelor degree required, or actively in pursuit of BSN degree (accepted into a BSN Program and/or currently enrolled).

·

Two years orthopedic nursing experience required.

·

Orthopedic Nursing Certification (ONC) required within 1 year of hire.

·

BLS certified by end of orientation period (approximately six (6) weeks).

·

Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
