The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering seeks to hire an Assistant/Associate Professor of Grain Management and System Analysis. This is a B-base, 9-month, tenure-track position with potential for summer funding. The position is described as 50% Research, 40% Extension, and 10% Service.
Research responsibilities include developing a nationally and internationally recognized, extramurally funded, interdisciplinary research program in grain management, storage, handling and processing systems, their individual components and their application/design. Extension and Outreach responsibilities include the development of an active industry-driven support program that focuses on grain management and grain processing uses most important to Iowa. Initial emphasis is expected to be on-farm to meet grain producer oriented needs, with future growth into grain and feed industry programming. Service responsibilities include departmental and College committees, and professional service to scientific and industry organizations.
The successful candidate is expected to establish a solid record of publications, secure competitive grants, and lead diverse, interdisciplinary teams that may include researchers from disciplines such as Economics, Food Science, Plant Pathology, Agronomy, and Seed Pathology. The candidate will also be expected to recruit and advise graduate students, fulfill committee assignments supporting the missions of the department, college, and university, and provide leadership to the profession through national and international society participation. Regular interaction with producers and key Iowa grain handling/processing industries is expected. The ability to work effectively in a team environment, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to lead and publish high quality research is expected for this position.
The Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering department has 29 tenure-track faculty, 40 support and research staff, and over 600 undergraduate and 85 graduate students. The department currently offers BS programs in Agricultural Systems Technology, Industrial Technology, Agricultural Engineering and Biological Systems Engineering. The department offers MS and Ph.D. programs in Industrial and Agricultural Technology and in Agricultural Engineering.

Assistant Professor: PhD, by start date, in Agricultural or Biological Engineering, Agricultural Technology, or field related to grains and bioprocessing.
Associate Professor: In addition to the qualifications above, candidates must have demonstrated experience and accomplishments in areas of expertise, experience that demonstrates the ability to support research with external funding, experience that demonstrates commitment to extension/outreach and expanding interaction with industries.
Experience in graduate instruction, advising, and interaction with students. A strong record of publishing peer-reviewed journal articles, leadership experiences and a commitment to diversity.
