ELA Classroom Observer - Temp
Wireless Generation is seeking a temporary ELA Classroom Observer with expertise in the field of middle-school English and Language Arts to contribute to the creation of innovative concepts and student user experiences for a suite of next-generation educational applications. The temporary Classroom Observer at Wireless Generation will participate in gathering, aggregating and writing contextual observations on a daily basis after observing classroom lessons during field trial studies. Additionally, ELA Classroom Observers will organize and gather anecdotal feedback from students and teachers in the. All findings and feedback will be uploaded for analysis by an office-based qualitative research team into cogent actionable insights and relevant behavioral patterns. Insights will help inform lesson updates and enhancements by the office-based curriculum development team.
Responsibilities of the ELA Classroom Observer:
Understand the pedagogical principles and mechanics of ELA lessons planned for testing.
Serve as lead onsite field researcher and classroom observer for pilot studies planned throughout the year, translating findings to the broader home-office design, curriculum development and design teams as a teacher and student advocate.
Develop research queries, with office-based teams, prior to testing.
Conduct user research, including contextual interviews and informal usability testing.
Moderate one-on-one usability tests with students and teachers to determine the efficacy of interfaces and work flow of various products from our product suite in both tablet and desktop environments.
Conduct onsite visits and draft field-based observations to share with the field trial, curriculum, design, UX and other office-based teams.
Develop appropriate means for presenting research in both formal and informal ways to office-based teams and to key stakeholders.
Initiate, drive and present actionable research-based recommendations to stakeholders and others in the W-Gen office to inform future work.
BA/BS degree in Human Factors, Education, or Psychology or equivalent combination of education and experience
2+ years of experience as an unobtrusive observer
2+ years of experience using digital tools, ideally tablet-based technology, in formal and informal settings
Knowledge of the Common Core State Standards
Experience aggregating feedback and producing analysis documentation
Demonstrated experience as an ELA teacher in a middle-school or high-school setting.
Theoretical understanding and practical experience employing user-centered design methods.
Experience designing and conducting user research and testing – possibly as a teacher testing curricula.
