Job Description:
To provide leadership, mentoring and direction to hourly, salaried and management personnel engaged in Environmental, Health, and/or Safety (EHS) activities related to a facility’s programs and plans. In this position, you will coach and facilitate the development of the work group to develop collaborative relationships among themselves, suppliers, other cross functional groups and internal customers to insure goals are achieved. Incumbent needs a breadth of knowledge and experience including EHS regulations, programs and policies. This position requires management of operations with significant EHS risk.

Management responsibilities of the job include:
Operations with high risk to worker health and safety

Operations requiring sophisticated health and safety programs and plans

Coordination/Influence with government agencies and legislative process

Though organizations will vary, you will coordinate planning, organization, and implementation of EHS programs.

This role requires that you will increase the understanding of processes and the related environmental, health and safety issues that need addressed.

You will develop and direct the implementation of programs to assure management takes the actions needed to raise employee awareness of risks and to reduce, avoid, and protect employees from hazards in the workplace, including occupational illness or disease.

You will also develop and direct programs to maintain and improve the general health of employees.

Representative Activities:
Lead Caterpillar's global industrial hygiene strategy.

Supervise Global EHS IH Staff

Provide IH techical support and expertise to facilities

Conduct IH exposure monitoring as needed

Build IH capability throughout the organization

Liaise with Governmental Affairs group for health and safety issues (influence and response).

Provide health and safety consultation for OSHA complaints, inspections, litigation, and settlements

Manage Caterpillar's contractor safety program, including contract with Browz (3rd party contractor pre-qualification service.

Identifies common and more complex safety/health hazards inherent in the organizations operations, and establishes guidelines for protection from those hazards.

Prepares presentations for training and communications at the facility, BU, and Corporate level as required.

Maintains relationships with regulatory and government agency personnel.

Investigates and establishes standards for protective equipment.

Assess safety/health programs for compliance with company standards, government regulations, and adequacy relative to local conditions.

Monitors periodic performance reports for trends and conditions and alerts line management to problems.

Generating and/or reviewing of reports for safety agencies.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
A technical degree and 6 to 9 years of industrial hygiene experience is required.

Certified Industrial Hygienist Certification required

A strong understanding of EHS regulations is essential.

Excellent human relations and communications skills are necessary.

Desired Qualifications:
An advanced degree
