Job Description:The Behavior Specialist's primary focus is:
1. The development, implementation, and monitoring of
individualized Behavior Management or Support
Programs.
2. The Behavior Specialist prepares reports which
reflect the monitoring of Behavior Management or
Support Programs and keep all consents current.
3. Traveling to company (AVS/NHS) residences and day
programs is required.
4. The Behavior Specialist is responsible for training
staff on proper implementation of AVS behavior
management policies.
5. Under the supervision of the Psychologist the
Behavior Specialist designs Behavior Management and
Support Programs.
6. Designs and distributes data keeping instruments
for Behavior Management Programs.
7. Obtains and keeps current all applicable consents
for Behavior Management Programs.
8. Obtains and keeps current all Human Rights
Committee consents for Behavior Management Programs.
9. Implements and trains staff to correctly implement
Behavior Management Programs and complete
documentation for Behavior Management Programs.
10. Monitors behavior documentation by collecting and
compiling Maladaptive Behavior Reports for all
applicable clients at the applicable group home or
facility and day program at least monthly or more
frequently if indicated.
11. Monitors behavioral documentation in the Behavior
Notes and Maladaptive Behavior Inserts.
12. Evaluates client’s behavioral progress at least
monthly on BMP Monthly Progress Report Summary
Sheets (“the big book”). Initiates appropriate
changes to Behavior Management (Support) Programs
based upon trends in behavior data.
13. Completes Quarterly and Annual Behavior Management
Program reviews.
14. Regularly trains staff on policies related to
behavior management including Behavior Management
Policy and psychology orientation.

Job Requirements:
The ideal candidate for the Behavior Specialist will

have a minimum of:
1. A four year degree in psychology, social sciences
or other related area
2. One or more years experience working with
individuals having physical handicaps, developmental
disabilities and/or psychiatric disorders is
preferred.
3. Must have driver’s license and reliable
transportation.
4. Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
