Position Purpose

The Assistant Dean of Development strategically designs andexecutes a personal solicitation program resulting in philanthropic supportthrough the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship ofhigh-level prospects for the College of Education. The Assistant Dean of Development secures,on an annual basis, private support at the major gift level ($100,000) andhigher. The Assistant Dean ofDevelopment will be expected to uphold and exemplify the operating practicesand mission of the Florida State University Foundation.

PrincipalResponsibilities
  • Serving as the chief strategist, develops, oversees and coordinates the fundraising plans of the College with the Dean of Education and the Vice President for Constituent Programs for the FSU Foundation
  • Identifies, qualifies and sustains a donor prospect portfolio with a giving capacity of $100,000 or more
  • With the Dean of Education, designs and develops a volunteer structure in support of the Colleges fundraising efforts
  • Facilitates the development, maintenance and monitoring of strategically aligned work plans for development staff within the College
  • Prepares proposals and gift agreements as required for proper gift documentation
  • Reviews gift agreements for proper gift documentation
  • Prepares prospect materials for the President of the University, the Vice President for University Advancement, the Dean of Education and other senior administration as appropriate to a prospects situation
  • Supervises the College of Education fundraising staff, to include monitoring performance metrics
  • Leads staff in establishing a philanthropically focused, supportive work environment
  • Develops and manages the cost centers budget under the direction of the Vice President for Constituent Programs for the FSU Foundation
  • Facilitates meetings, initiating up to date communications, informational exchanges and project / philanthropic coordination with the faculty and faculty chairs of the College of Education
  • Prepares correspondence with prospects and all contact reporting in a professional and timely manner
  • Maintains donor interest and enthusiasm through stewardship activities
  • Ensures that direct activities with prospects are designed to enhance the affiliation between the prospect and the University
  • Coordinates with FSU Foundation colleagues to identify prospects for planned giving, corporate and foundation giving, and major giving
  • Coordinates an annual giving plan for the College of Education with the FSU Foundations Director of Annual Giving
  • Effectively communicates organizations mission and represents the organizations culture to external stakeholders.
  • Protects confidential information

Education &Experience
  • Bachelors degree required; Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years of experience in major gift development in a university setting with a strong preference given to those with College of Education experience
  • Minimum of three years supervisory experience required
  • Campaign experience preferred
  • Proven success in the closure of major gifts at the $100,000 and above level
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office products suite
