Group Underwriter I Summary:
Accountable for profitability, selection, and retention of group products within employer groups in an assigned area or market
*Prepares renewal recommendations by calculating base rates and needed adjustments, and implementing needed adjustments to current rate, plan, and policy provisions utilizing account rating formulas and an approved pricing approach.
*Prepare prospect proposal to ensure the profitable acquisition of new cases including accurate and timely calculation of credible account rates through the evaluation of group demographics, industry, experience, expenses, adverse selection, trend factors, and profit. Initiate and communicate proposal recommendations, new policy implementation, and renewal adjustments while maintaining cooperative relationships at all levels.

SKILLS OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Group Underwriter I requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Mathematics, computer science, insurance, management or related field preferred
1 to 3 years experience
• Basic knowledge of risk principals associated with insurance policies preferred.
• Basic PC knowledge required.
• Basic knowledge of insurance contracts required.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
• Excellent Analytical skills.
• Organizational skills - ability to handle multiple priorities
• Leadership skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and know when to seek assistance.
Group Underwriter II requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Mathematics, computer science, insurance, management or related field preferred
3 to 5 years experience
• Proficiency with PC Windows-based software, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Proficient knowledge of risk principals associated with group insurance preferred.
• Proficient knowledge of insurance contracts and compliance issues.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Good organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities
• Leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently and address issues through own initiative with minimal assistance from team leaders or manager.
