Performs field inspections on all phases of work being performed by contractors on complex road and bridge projects during construction. Inspections include grading and shaping, placement of drainage structures, placement of concrete curb and gutter, placement of reinforcing steel, placement of asphalt, testing of sub-grade, placement of base material, compaction of base materials, etc. Performs duties as a construction crew survey chief on construction projects using level, EDM, and Data Collector. Establishes line, grade, and control points for highway and bridge projects. Monitors and performs the sampling and testing of all materials used on construction projects to ensure materials meet required specifications. Prepares reports to include daily work reports, erosion control reports, monthly estimates, final estimates and final plans to ensure contractors are properly paid for all work completed satisfactorily. Trains technicians in all aspects of construction work to include surveying, field inspections, sampling and testing of construction materials, maintaining daily diaries, using SiteManager, and preparing final notes and plans. Monitors traffic control and erosion control on assigned projects to ensure each plan is being followed according to approved plans.

Minimum and Additional Requirements:
A high school diploma and six (6) years of progressively responsible field experience in geodetic surveying or related area; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.

A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
SCDOT Asphalt Roadway, Concrete, and Earthwork Certified.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Software including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
