Our Energy Innovation Business Unit has an opportunity for a Smart Grid Planning Consultant who will be responsible for developing and managing the programmatic aspects for key smart grid initiatives and projects, both customer and utility-focused, including: budget oversight and reporting, project work plan implementation, key success indicator tracking and reporting, internal communication plans, training preparation and coordination, advanced technical assessments, and trend analysis. The Consultant develops and maintains technical expertise on smart grid technologies and may be called on to act as lead on major projects and programs, coordinating and managing activities across multiple business units to extract the highest value. In addition, the Consultant develops relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally. Will report to management on program status and provides advice on issues and opportunities.
In cooperation with lead project managers, develop and implement project work plans and secure buyoff and approval from cooperating departments. Regularly revise work plans to reflect current conditions and update as appropriate.
Manage smart grid project budgets to maximize the benefit to ratepayers and the corporations by assuring projects are come in at or under budget. Manage internal reporting and communications on budget and progress related aspects.
Implement key success indicator tracking and reporting. Develop and maintain tools for reporting progress made. Revise tracking mechanisms as appropriate.
Co-develop and manage training interface and coordination.
Effectively interface and resolve project issues with departmental staff, other departments, executive management, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to meet project requirements.
Through continuous learning, stay abreast of trends (technical, market, regulatory and political) and utilize this knowledge in order to maximize corporate benefits and minimize negative impacts.
Demonstrate a high individual level of analytical and technical capabilities and expertise on current technical and policy smart grid issues, maintain technical expertise regarding smart grid technologies.
Develop and maintain relationships with key local and state smart grid stakeholders.
Participate, as Company representative in various forums, committees and working groups dealing with smart grid technical, policy and regulatory issues
The successful candidate will have a Bachelors degree in engineering, science, finance or business, plus a minimum of 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements Include:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
In-depth knowledge of energy issues, technologies, markets, the electric utility industry, and relevant state and federal requirements
Excellent business, planning and project management skills
A Masters degree preferred
