The Dental Health Program in the Division of Child and Family Health seeks a fulltime licensed dental hygienist to work in Southside Health District (Brunswick, Halifax and Mecklenburg Counties), to provide oral health services under a protocol for "Remote Supervision" authorized by the Virginia Board of Dentistry. This position will manage a school based dental sealant program which includes working with school administrations, screening school children and applying dental sealants, educating children and parents, promoting the program and working with local public and private dentists in the district to refer children with treatment needs. This program will also work in the local health department clinics to apply fluoride varnish to teeth of young children and provide anticipatory guidance for parents. This position will work with small children, school age children and children with special needs in various programs. Data collection is an essential part of this position .
Knowledge and experience in the skills and practices of dental hygiene and knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA guidelines. Current license to practice dental hygiene in the state of Virginia is required. Experience as a dental hygienist is required. Current VA drivers license is required. The ability to work independently is required. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups.
Computer skills utilizing Outlook email, MS-Excel, MS-Word and MS-Powerpoint preferred. Experience working with children including those with special needs is preferred. General knowledge and experience in educational methods in the field of dental health. Experience in the operation of a truck is preferred but not required.
A background investigation is required. A copy of a current Virginia dental hygiene license is required. A copy of a current Virginia driver's license is required.
