Jr Database Administrator – SQL Server Overview
This person will be supporting internal customers/team members with Database Administration needs. The Database Administrator will be involved in all aspects of database maintenance, performance tuning, disaster recovery strategies, and relational database implementation.
Consulting internal customers/team members on the following topics: Database promotions (Including reverse from prod to test…) Installation of SQL Server (including database engine, Analysis Services, Reporting Services) SQL Server maintenance (service pack/hotfix installation, index rebuilds, etc.) Monitoring systems (Includes Disk Space, I/O Performance, Memory, CPU Utilization, Etc.) Backup strategies Backup strategy fire drills System maintenance strategies (e.g. Cycling SQL Error Logs, DBCC, Backup History Cleanup) Documenting processes Documenting systems Troubleshooting problem applications Working with Data Solutions Supervisor on allocating hardware for new databases Database security Index and Statistic maintenance Query tuning T-SQL help Designing and Testing DR Plans for systems and databases Implementing and monitoring Datacenter System Replication (Via software like Double-Take…) Participate as a member of project teams and provide database consultation and expertise to the team Skill Requirements: Enterprise relational database design experience (VLDB’s) Index and Statistic knowledge (Creating and Tuning on VLDB’s) Query Tuning knowledge (i.e. SQL Profile and Exec Plans on VLDB’s) Knowledge in T-SQL (Including Stored Procedures, Triggers, Etc.) Experience with database-related promotions/deployments in a heavily change managed environment Networking knowledge (How it relates to SQL Server… Example, AD SPN’s for delegation…) Memory tuning Backup strategy knowledge (All aspects…) Server and Database maintenance knowledge (All aspects…) SQL Server Replication Knowledge (All aspects…) Experience with multiple versions of SQL Server (2000, 2005, 2008, etc) Clustering knowledge Knowledge of SQL Server implementation strategies across multiple environments (virtual vs. physical, 32-bit vs. 64-bit, etc) and when to employ each Disaster Recovery and high availability knowledge and how/when to employ the various strategies (replication, mirroring, clustering, etc.) Documentation experience Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills Excellent oral, written, and customer communication skills
High School Diploma One year of SQL / Database Experience
