Receives oral and written instructions from supervisor or a higher graded Tractor Operator. Instructions are provided on the transporting of material and equipment in the warehouse; limited maintenance on tractors; towing; and required plowing, or spreading fertilizer. Supervisor checks completed work for compliance with instructions and standard operating procedures.

DUTIES:

MAJOR DUTIES:
Incumbent operates a warehouse-type tractor to transport material and equipment; or operate light-weight mowing tractors. Tows such vehicles as wheeled trailers, dump carts and skids that are connected to the tractor with simple coupling device such as pin and eye. Transports materials, furniture and supplies in a warehouse or between facilities within the installation. May be required to load and unload cargo in trailers ensuring that towed vehicles are properly loaded and connected to the tractor. Performs limited operator maintenance on tractors. Primarily works on improved surfaces, transporting materials through warehouses, parking areas, and roads. Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Must have a working knowledge of tractor controls for starting, stopping, and maneuvering the tractor and towed vehicles in congested warehouse. Must have knowledge of pick-up and delivery locations within the activity. Must have knowledge of operating characteristics of the tractor and the carrying capacity of the towed vehicle. Must be skilled in judging clearances, heights, and turning angles of the tractor and towed vehicles. Must know the location of grease fittings and fluid reservoirs and be able to grease the vehicles; replenish oil and perform other limited maintenance on tractors.

RESPONSIBILITY:
Performs the duties according to oral instructions or on work orders and shipping documents and follows established pick-up and delivery schedules.

PHYSICAL EFFORTS:
Exerts light to moderate physical effort while performing duties. Frequently requires stopping, bending, reaching, and arm and leg movement to operate tractor controls. Operators frequently life and carry parts and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Occasionally, may move heavier items with assistance of other workers or mechanical lifting devices.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work may be performed inside or outside. Operators are subject to drafts, noise, and varying temperatures inside. May be exposed to weather and temperature extremes outside, as well as high noise levels, vibrations, and jolts from the tractor and towed equipment. May be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and fumes.

Applicant must have directly related experience in operating warehouse-type tractors and associated equipment, and performing minor maintenance on equipment.

Must Possess and maintain a current valid driver's license.

May be required to obtain a Government motor-vehicle operator's permit.

5.Immunizations may be required as a condition of employment for the health and safety of those in the facility as determined by medical authority. Already immune individuals (based on documented receipt of vaccine series or physician diagnosed illness), or those subject to religious exemption, or medical contraindication are exempt from this requirement.

6.Satisfactory completion of a physical is also required.
7.Must possess and maintain a current valid driver's license.
8.Must maintain the physical requirements of the position.

Conversion of employment category (from Flex to RPT/RFT) may be accomplished without further competition in accordance with AR 215-3.
