Currently, this Tier 1 automotive components supplier needs a talented individual to fill the role of a Gear Research and Development Engineering Leader at our Detroit, MI location.
Key Elements of position:
Lead and Responsibility for all Gear Research and Development activity, including Hypoids, Spirals, Bevels, Helicals and others gear forms
Work closely with Gear Design Engineers to examine and recommend alternate design techniques/software to advance AAM design capability and strength /NVH prediction
Work closely with the Gear Lab Prototyping area to examine current practice and recommend alternative machines, methods and procedures for product improvement
Create action plan, research activity and procedure to examine and determine cause and effect of strength/NVH failure mode due to design, manufacturing and quality considerations in applications
Travel as necessary ( up to 30%) to other manufacturing facilities, vendors and suppliers, meetings, conferences, training and shows, both domestically and internationally
Participate in customer meetings and write detailed technical reports and create/make technical presentations
Develop, improve and implement best practices and standards for design and development
Participate in all gear development lab activities including: Developments, Research activities, Training, Customer visits, Inspection services
Investigate and recommend new type of gear equipment, processes and software
Assist production facilities with troubleshooting manufacturing issues
Benchmarking and performing competitive gear analysis
Participate in customer meetings and write detailed technical reports and create/make technical presentations
Participate in product design review meetings
Support plant PIP and cost reduction initiatives
Work closely with Product, Test and NVH Engineers,
Write test lab requests and approve results and lab set-ups
Ensure timely completion of all project objectives
Expediting part processing through internal and external sources
Hands on gear machine development desirable
Be able to write detailed technical reports
Have a positive attitude, quick learner and a team player with diverse ideas and viewpoints
Ability to manage people and resources to complete task.
Education and Experience:
Masters in Mechanical Engineering required
5 or more years Gear Experience including both advanced theoretical gear design and simulation and hands on experience with hypoid gear processing equipment
PHD in Mechanical Engineering preferred
