Salary: $21.60 per hour

DEFINITION:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities, the Construction Facilities Planner Technician provides support to project managers for Measure L Facilities improvement projects including coordination with site administration to minimize disruption to the school sites and contractors and to ensure compliance with contract requirements. This position also requires the ability to organize and maintain all contract documentation with close attention to schedules and deadlines.

DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS:
This position will assist as required with the general administration and management of the work and progress of contractors as well as the support and coordination of the project managers. This position will coordinate with the District Maintenance and Operations personnel, as well as with District staff regarding the impact of construction activities on school operations. This position will also manage the training, coordinating, and monitoring of staff assigned to preparing for a move.

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Knowledge of and experience in the construction of school facilities. Experience working with the California Division of State Architects and the Office of Public School Construction
•Knowledge of construction building trades, codes, and standards
•Knowledge of project and construction management
•Basic understanding of structural, mechanical, and electrical systems, including telephone, computer, and public address systems
•General ability to prepare schedules, monitor progress, and track costs related to building improvements
•Basic knowledge of legal requirements for public works contracts
•Demonstrated problem-solving ability. Be creative and innovative
•Capable of using computer management software including graphic and tabular presentation of data, record keeping, word processing, and spreadsheets
•Ability to communicate well with staff and community
•High level of interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
•Basic knowledge about the operation of elementary and middle schools
•Self-disciplined person who is flexible and can manage multiple projects simultaneously
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management Degree with a minimum of 2 to 3 years experience in the public school construction industry. A minimum of 5 years of related experience in lieu of a college degree would be acceptable.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
As a member of the facilities team the Construction Facilities Planner Technician would provide support to project managers for selected Measure L Facilities Improvement Program projects including scheduling of projects to minimize educational program interruption, general administration of the projects in progress, and coordination of architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure facility improvements are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner. This position requires the ability to work independently with little direction, exercise good judgment in managing assigned projects and activities, conduct facilities studies and carry on several simultaneous assignments, with close attention to schedules and deadlines.
Assist with the review of design documents for temporary facilities, staging, and construction phasing, as well as coordinate and track California Division of State Architects submittals and all permit applications. The candidate will also assist with the bidding process, i.e., pre-bid, bid opening, bid evaluation and award and maintain all documents, progress reports, schedules, drawings, contracts, time and material cost accounts, payroll certifications and other records as required.
Assist as required with the general administration of the work and progress of contractors as well as the general coordination of the activities of the architect/engineers on the project. Coordinate with the District Maintenance and Operations personnel, as well as with District staff regarding the impact of construction activities on school operations. Assist as required to monitor contractor labor and materials for adequacy to meet schedules.
