- Incumbent will serve as Chief of Obstetrical and Gynecology with full responsibility for supervising clinical care services as provided by temporary and permanent staff physicians, nurse specialists, administrative support staff, nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, physician assistants, medical students, and residents.
- Assignments includes providing specialty specific inpatient and outpatient care including surgical procedures as appropriate across the age spectrum, assignments involve the full range of medical problems in the specialty field including recognition and treatment of complex diseases and assessment and stabilization of critically ill patients before transport to a higher level of care. includes providing consultation to others to interpret findings and assists in determining nature and extent of diagnosis.
- Supervises medical staff including oversight of employee recruitment, orientation, performance appraisal, competency assessment, quality of care reviews, peer review, credentialing, mandatory training requirements, disciplinary actions and leave approval. Monitors clinic flow and assures professional and effective communication between providers both inside and outside of the organization.
- Responsible for the diagnosis, care and treatment of patients, and high acuity cases in the capacity of the staff physician, typical, but not all-inclusive assignments includes interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, and requests and/or performs diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to each case.
- Assures preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen for the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needs to provide comprehensive medical care; dictates clinical reports and correspondence concerning patients under his/her care to physicians, hospitals, and other individuals and facilities. Works closely with allied health professionals in the provision of broad, health program services. Works in close partnership with nursing and other clinical leadership to assure high quality services. Incumbent a member of the medical staff and will provide diagnostic and therapeutic services. Performs other duties as assigned.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 1) Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. Within Federal clinical and training programs, a distinction is made between general practice and specialist positions. Specialist positions require graduate training and experience related to the specialty and subspecialty of the position to be filled. The length and content of residency programs depends upon the specialization and requirements of recognized accrediting American medical specialty boards. These boards are authorized to conduct examinations to determine the competence of physicians in the specialty, to issue certificates of qualification, to participate in evaluating the quality of residency programs, and to determine the requirements for certification.
Substitution of Experience for Residency Training: Experience MAY NOT BE SUBSITUTED for residency training that is essential for the performance of specialized duties. For example, specialists such as Obstetric and Gynecology must complete the number of years of accredited residency training required in their respective specialties. An exception may be made when a peer panel of physicians (subject-matter experts) determines and documents that the knowledge, skills, and abilities acquired in professional medical practice are equivalent to those acquired during the same period of time in a graduate training program.
- For GS-15, 5 years of residency training in Obstetric and Gynecology or have equivalent Obstetric and Gynecology specialized experience and training that demonstrates the ability to provide independent patient care.
