DEPARTMENT: General Audience Programming
STATUS: Full Time/Regular

JOB OBJECTIVE:
Participate in the planning, implementation and management of primetime programming, specifically within the genres of science, history and natural history.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Proactively search and solicit program ideas from producers from around the world
Help develop new program series and specials for primetime
Review proposals and programs for the NPS. Assist in the contracting process as appropriate. Work with producers, co-producers and distributors to provide editorial oversight throughout the development, production and post-production stages of projects
Manage the PBS presentation of ongoing series, sustaining a continuous dialogue with all series producers to provide guidance and feedback in support of long-term goals and effective planning.
Assist as necessary in funding renewal process for these series
Manage Programming team, including 2 assistant directors and 2 senior program associates
Work closely with PBS colleagues (Program Scheduling, Fundraising Programming, Content Services, Marketing & Communications, General Counsel, PBS Distribution) to jointly meet company-wide goal
Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Five years in television management and/or production management with experience in managing primetime media
Must have experience in television production and broadcasting
General knowledge of contracts within the broadcast industry
Experience within the science, history and/or natural history genres preferred

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in TV/radio/film, mass communications, liberal arts, journalism or related field
Graduate work desirable

SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Effective interpersonal negotiation skills
Ability to work well under pressure
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Attention to detail and pride in high-quality execution of work
Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically with others
Keeps abreast of latest trends in television production
