This vacancy will be used to fill vacancies within the Business Operations Division located on Joint Base Lewis McChord. The Gardener (MVO) schedules and may be assisted by lower level employees in preparing planting areas; watering, fertilizing, planting, pruning and trimming plants, shrubs and trees. Maintain flowers and seeded areas to ensure and attractive appearance.

Works under general supervision of the supervisor or lead who assigns projects to be accomplished, areas to be worked and the seasonal planting and maintenance schedule. The incumbent plans and carries out work according to the schedule or project assignment, keeping within the framework of established gardening practices.
Schedules and may be assisted by lower level employees in preparing planting areas; watering, fertilizing, planting, pruning and trimming plants, shrubs and trees. Maintain flowers and seeded areas to ensure and attractive appearance. Determine quantities of plants and materials required for specific areas. Identifies and applies treatment for plant diseases, insects and related problems. Uses a variety of hand and power operated garden tools and equipment.
Operates a farm-type tractor and towed or attached equipment on level or rolling terrain typical of a golf course. Frequently operates towed and attached equipment (i.e. mowers, aerators, plow spreaders, harrows, sprayers, etc.) manipulating both tractor and equipment controls through hydraulic or mechanical controls. Operate a variety of gasoline, diesel or electric powered-wheeled vehicles that typically have a gross vehicle weight of more than 10,000 and up to 26,000 pounds.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Must have experience which demonstrated knowledge of seasonal gardening tasks, such as fertilizing, preparing seedbeds, transplanting, laying sod, aerating, pruning, trimming, and applying chemicals to plants; and be skilled in operating a variety of diesel, gasoline or electric powered wheeled vehicles with attachments with a gross vehicle weight of more than 10,000 and up to 26,000 pounds.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid experience or volunteer work.
Conversion of employment category (from Flex to RPT/RFT) may be accomplished without further competition in accordance with AR 215-3.
