The role of the Communications Specialist is to work with the internal communications team on shaping and executing communications strategies that support business objectives. This can include:

 Working with the team to provide communications counsel and support for specific functions and/or business units. Goal is to ensure employees understand and engage in the functional/BU strategy, and that functional/Bu positioning is consistent with the broader communications priorities for Cargill.

 Assist and drive specific aspects of enterprise or global communications programs;

 Provide communications support for cross-BU communities of practice such as those dedicated to innovation, branding or food safety;

 Build and maintain channels and relationships with the global communications network;

 Support special projects that help Cargill employees understand and engage in key corporate initiatives and/or strategies.

This position works with a multi-disciplinary Corporate Affairs service team that also includes specialists in Government Relations, Employee Communications, Issue Management, Knowledge Management and Corporate Responsibility.

Principal Accountabilities:
50% - Research, write and edit a variety of communications materials and content, including newsletters, internal articles, website copy, brochures, factsheets, presentations, case studies, video scripts, customer communications and other collateral. Ensures materials are consistent and aligned with corporate narrative and communications priorities.

15% - Supports and manages a number of functional intranet sites.

15% - Provide project management support for BU/FUN events and initiatives that require communications and marketing support such as recognition events, employee meetings, engagement activities or internal campaign launches.

10% - Works with internal social collaboration tools to support key BU/FUN initiatives.

10% - Provides central source for communications best practices and support for the network.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, journalism, public relations, marketing communications or related field.
  • Five or more years experience working in an internal communications or related role
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Self-starter and effective problem-solver
  • Strong team player in a cross-functional, global setting
  • Ability to influence stakeholders
  • Strong problem solving/critical thinking capability
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Strong computer skills – PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Sharepoint
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work within all levels of the organization

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with focus on execution and implementation
  • Ability to pro-actively identify and implement process improvements
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience living and/or working outside of the United States
  • Experience building, publishing and managing SharePoint sites
  • Experience working in a large, complex, global organization
  • Familiarity with AP writing style
  • Comfort with networking and building relationships
  • Exposure to change management practices
  • Knowledge and interest in social media and social collaboration tools
