This position is responsible for managing the activities of the Fleet, Garage and Fuel Operations of the Department of Highways & Traffic/Public Works. There are approximately 40 employees working in this Division with a budget of $11.5 million. The Division Manager works out of the Fleet Office located in Maryland Heights. The starting salary will be within the first 20% of the salary range.
Examples of Duties:
- Manages the acquisition, disposal and utilization of County vehicles and equipment.
- Oversee the daily operation of the Division.
- Develop, implement and administer the unit's strategies and activities.
- Responsible for planning and coordination of work within the Division.
- Prepare and manage the annual budget for Fleet, Garage and Fuel Operations.
- Provide direction to and supervise staff of approximately 40 staff.
- Prepare and sign performance appraisals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field with 8 years of related experience preferably with Fleet and/or Garage Operations including supervisory or managerial experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience. A current, valid driver's license is required.
SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT : A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.
The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment.
The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.
All applicants conditionally offered a permanent part time, full time, term or on-call position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be bourne by the County.
