To effectively direct and supervise all functions and activities of the Bakery Department and its personnel to achieve the sales and profit goals established for the department; to ensure that the work shifts of all department personnel contribute to the best financial interests of the store.

Essential Functions:
Observe all store rules and company policies.
Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times and observe company dress regulations, enforcing grooming standards throughout the department. Hair net required.
Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations.
Ensure compliance with all state, county and local weights and measures laws and labeling requirements.
Have a self-development program.
Display leadership and motivational qualities.
Ensure favorable department image to customers by maintaining a clean, attractive and friendly department.
Practice creative merchandising.
Keep coolers and other displays fully stocked and faced at all times according to tag allocation, product movement, or department standards.
Sign and display merchandise in a neat and attractive manner.
Be fully knowledgeable and thoroughly familiar with the nature and duties of every staff position in the department including procedures, policies and operations. Be able to decorate, package, and bake according to company standards.
Observe shift operating hours at all times as scheduled or assigned. Ensure that all subordinate department personnel do likewise.
Maintain cleanliness of counters, cases, coolers, bench, floor, freezer and work areas on a continuous basis.
Plan and organize development plan including setting goals, prioritizing and organizing tasks and developing appropriate time lines.
Create a daily To Do list for employees. Ensure tasks are completed to company policies and procedures.
Conduct timely employee evaluations.
Meet work schedule requirements consistently and punctually. Ensure direct employees do as well.
Achieve established profit contribution budgets and labor budgets.
Keep an active inventory of bread products and order accordingly.
Understand P&L, invoice flows, calculating margins, cost and retail as well as basic supermarket math.
Maintain records of inventory, quality assurance, invoices, etc. according to company policy.
Understand and work pro-actively to achieve diversity objectives.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed

Customer Relations
Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance.
Wait on customers including slicing, cutting, weighing, packaging, and pricing merchandise.
Demonstrate product knowledge and honestly represent the quantities and contents of each product.
Keep samples full and fresh. Offers free samples to customers.
Handle customer concerns, problems in a calm and professional manner.
Work for combination ‘plus,’ and suggestive sales and utilize the intercom according to company standards.
Adhere to all standards outlined in the Customer 1 st Strategy Program.
Take cake and special orders over the phone and at the counter.
Employee Relations
Responsible for ensuring that all department personnel are trained in the store’s method of performing department activities and functions.
Maintain good communications in the store and throughout the organization. Communicate new directives and initiative to department employees.
Effectively supervise Bakery personnel.
Communicate and work with department vendors.
Effectively manage human resources through efficient scheduling of personnel to meet the needs of the department based on business volume and workloads.
Notify store manager of personnel situations or policy violations having an adverse effect on store operating performance or of situations requiring disciplinary action or that may potentially require such action.
Cash Control
Ensure that all sales are properly recorded into department registers in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Count out till correctly in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Notify store manager promptly of any problems with the register.
Labor Control
Record all shift hours worked in the Kronos Biometric Reader.
Achieve established benchmarks by working with a ‘sense of urgency’.
Honestly keep breaks and lunches within the prescribed limits. Ensure that all department employees do likewise.
Oversee weekly Select-a-Sked schedules generated for the Bakery Department to ensure contractual obligations are met and maintain budgeted guidelines.
Supply Control
Control department supply expenses according to set budgets.
Control excessive use of supplies.
Inventory Control
Follow approved procedures for receiving product, price marking, and restocking to ensure quality protection, accuracy and product rotation.
Check and verify deliveries to ensure that items listed on vendor invoices are all delivered. Check products for quality, count, and condition. Report any discrepancies immediately.
Order merchandise and maintain inventory control to minimize out of stocks and over stocks, to maximize sales and turnover, and to ensure quality product.
Take products to preparation or storage areas.
Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
Perform scan audits as directed to ensure inventory control.
Ensure that all department personnel accurately record markups and markdowns, in-store use of merchandise, and bad merchandise/spoilage write-offs in accordance with company policies.
Use correct pricing as determined by gross margin calculations established for the department.
Keep perishable merchandise rotated in accordance with store policy and product code dates and pull out of code merchandise and scan out shrink with CAO guns daily.
Maintain an in-stock position on all items in the department at all times.
Conduct inventories on a scheduled basis.
Adhere to all company policies and procedures with regards to Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) and the Fresh Insights Program.
Adhere to company policy pertaining to excessive cash in registers and request cash pickups in accordance with One Touch Accounting policies.
Take action to control shrinkage and pilferage loses. Observe security standards by staying alert and being aware of customer and employee actions and behavior. Report to store manager or person in charge any abnormal behavior.
Ensure that all department registers and equipment have been secured priorto personnel leaving such equipment unattended.
Protect company assets at all times.
Keep individual payment receipt with you during breaks and lunch periods.
Maintenance and Safety
Comply with safety policies and procedures and ensure that all department personnel do as well.
Participate in store’s monthly safety meetings.
Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with store policy and state and local health regulations on a regular, ongoing basis.
Follow planned program of maintenance on ovens, cases, back room coolers, and other Bakery equipment.
Check refrigeration/freezer/oven equipment and proof box for proper performance. Report any equipment malfunction immediately to store manager.
Ensure floors are clean and sanitized according to state, and federal health regulations and company policy.
Ensure that all department equipment is correctly used and maintained in good working order.
Immediately advise store manager of any maintenance or equipment problems.
Tools and Equipment Used
Two and six wheelers, pallet jacks, vendor racks, trays, telephone, intercoms, ovens, microwaves, transit racks, sinks, utensils, mixers, bread slicer, wrappers, fryers, glazer, box baler, trash compacter, plastic/paper bags, label machine, label gun, proof box, office supplies, packaging supplies, gloves, and pastry bags, computer and CAO guns, chemical cleaners and sanitizers.
Work Surface/Environment
Desk, filing cabinets, preparation tables, baker’s bench, service counters and cases.
Very cold temperatures due to freezers, very hot temperatures due to ovens, flour and sugar dust, baking/chemical fumes and occasional noise .

Minimum Position Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
Complete food handlers course and obtain current permit where required.
After completion of Mentorship program, must pass Zone Panel Interview.

Desired Previous Job Experience:
Minimum of three years experience in department preferred, but not required.
