Job Description:
CANBERRA is seeking a Senior Software / Firmware Engineer for our location in Oak Ridge, TN.

Responsibilities and duties include:
Design, develop and debug complex code, algorithms and software programs for microprocessors and computer based products and systems.

Product development, product support, design enhancements and assisting with product specials.

Work with hardware and software engineers to develop systems, participate in processing architecture decisions in and to assess hardware/firmware/software compatibility.

Work with marketing to develop software/firmware requirements, specifications, user's manuals and related sales and design documents.


All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field, plus five years of progressively responsible experience in software engineering. Fifteen plus years of significant and demonstrated technical leadership experience may be substituted for a degree.

Knowledge of programming languages C, C , and Assembly.

Good understanding of real-time operating systems and communication protocols.

Must be able to use test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol and network analyzers.

Ability to write embedded systems, boot loaders, and device drivers.

Detailed familiarity with SPI, I2C, UART, USB, Ethernet.

Good understanding of analog/digital components including microprocessors.

Experience in adhering to technical standards and procedures.

Experience in embedded software/firmware development with an emphasis on certified designs, testing and documentation.

Must be able to follow schedules and meet project milestones and document all work.

The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.

The ability to read and understand schematics and component datasheets is a plus.

Demonstrated experience in medical instruments, flight control systems or nuclear instrumentation and safety systems highly desirable. Experience with real time operating systems a plus.

Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field.

Eight years progressive experience in software engineering.
