The Department of English & Modern Languages offers B.A. and B.S.E. degrees in English with minors in Creative Writing, English Literature, African American Studies, and Women’s Studies. Teaching duties include composition courses and world literature courses, with a preference for courses in Asian (especially Chinese) literature. The department also offers B.A. and B.S.E. degrees in Spanish. Teaching assignments will include composition and world literature courses, with the ability to teach courses in Asian (especially Chinese) literature preferred. Teaching load is 4/4, with no more than 3 preparations per semester. Composition load is dependent on staffing needs, but is typically 2 sections of the same course per semester. Strong evidence of excellent teaching as well as continuing scholarly growth and service are required for tenure and promotion.

Minimum requirements: Ph.D. in English from a regionally accredited (or foreign equivalent) university and evidence of effective college-level teaching experience in the desired subject areas. Requirements include the completion of a successful campus interview (which includes a demonstration of teaching skills). Additional qualifications: Ability to adapt to changing technologies that support teaching and learning; demonstration of excellent communication skills (verbal and written); ability to teach, evaluate and advise students; evidence of relevant scholarly activity; ability to work collaboratively with others; and demonstration, through past accomplishments and behaviors, of the ability to support Mansfield University’s principles and values of Character, Scholarship, Culture, Service (http://www1.mansfield.edu/mansfield-creed) and the University’s strong student-centered vision and mission. Other conditions of employment include verification of all earned degrees through the receipt of original transcripts and an acceptable background check report.

Essential Functions:
Teaching and advising, continued scholarly growth, and service to the department, university, and community. Effective communication skills and use of electronic teaching technology. Work cooperatively with staff, faculty and administration. Ability to use software application programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and effective use of phone, keyboard and other office equipment. May be required to lift, stand, walk, reach with arms, etc.

Job Status:
