This position offers an immediate opportunity in Network Engineering for an individual that possesses planning and engineering skills, with a strong emphasis on Data Networking, IP technologies and OSP Engineering. The Network Engineer will be responsible for preparing detailed engineering plans for day-to-day network engineering tasks. The Network Engineer will evaluate plans and design the network architecture based on its current and future utilization and demand. The Network Engineer applies their knowledge of new technology, network evolution and financial modeling to solve today's requirements and challenges as well as evolving the existing network to meet future market demand.
The Network Engineer will create engineering projects that place equipment that supports Ethernet, DS1 and DS3 orders, DSLAM installations and facilitating their completion through local construction and operations resources
Required Skills and Competencies
Strong technical and organizational skills with an emphasis on Data Networking and IP technologies
Must be able to multi-task and perform well under pressure to meet both internal and external customer commitments
Must be proficient with computer applications and MS Office (Excel, Word, Visio and Power Point)
Must be comfortable facilitating projects and making technical and financial decisions
Must be able to write and speak in a clear and concise manner to technical, customer and executive audiences
Must demonstrate abilities to prioritize and organize project assignments and other tasks.
Must be comfortable presenting and be able to provide appropriate level of material to support to all audiences – Management, Engineering, Marketing and Customer
Must be comfortable in talking to vendors from both a technical and financial stance to solve complex network challenges
IP and Ethernet network design
ATM and Frame Relay network design
SONET network design
DSL (ATM/IP; ADSL, ADSL2+, VDSL2) protocols and design
Equipment and job package creation
Project implementation and management
CompTIA Network+ Certification, Cisco CCENT Certification or equivalent
Vendor specific platform experience – Adtran, BTI Systems, Calix, Cisco, FujitsuFive years of Telecommunications Engineering/Operations experience in an ILEC, CLEC or IXC industry preferred. Two of the five years must be Networking Engineering specific.
B.S. in Engineering or Information Technology
Minimal travel, however must be able to drive up to eight hours or travel by airplane.
